While my Stinger is in the shop for the seat issue, which they screwed up by not ordering the correct parts! They tore into my seat and then checked the new parts to discover that they were wrong. Anyway... I am driving a 2020 Sportage, which isn't the greatest car compared to the Stinger. I went online to look at the car and checked out the Soul which has a 7 speed dual clutch trans! I didn't know this but why can that car have one and ours does not?

Probably because the 8 speed standard auto was already in the Hyundai pipeline. The dual clutch in the Soul is front wheel drive. If Genesis were to end up with a Dual clutch transmission you can bet the Stinger would eventually get it

The new Soul has a dual clutch, I did not know that. It's probably the cost, being that the Soul doesn't put out a lot of power so they can build it on the cheap. With the stinger it would have to be more like the m3 transmission so it can handle the power. I just used the BMW transmission as an example. I would be nice if they put one in the stinger.

A DCT actually is more expensive than a standard auto.

Industry is moving away from DCT for high torque applications. I'm glad we are not DCT - one less worry! ;)

I also believe traditional torque converter autos do a much better job around town and for smoother shifting when you're not flogging it.

Also as made evident by Kia's engineering team, the same transmission can shift nearly as fast as a DCT. Probably lighter, less complicated and more cost effective. I honestly think because the Stinger is a grand touring car first, a torque converter auto makes the most sense. It's the best feeling auto car I've ever driven, in terms of performance and comfort.

I really love the trans in my car. I've never driven a DCT trans so I can't speak from experience. I do know that when I leave a red light the competition is behind me. I'm not trying to get ahead of anyone but the way the trans shifts with the ratio they use I'm usually ahead of the other cars. Some kid in a 370Z thought it would be fun to "race" me and was put in his place. Not sure if he was a noob or not, but I was out front when I let off.

The stinger's auto trans is pretty good imo. Very fast shifts and no driveline shock like some other performance vehicles do.

Ok, being a noob I may be mistaken, but I thought my 2018 Stinger GT2 was manufactured with a 8-speed DCT. Won’t be the 1st time I’ve been wrong.

None of the Stingers came with a DCT, I do believe the New K5 GT came with one.
